1952 Parkhurst Baseball Near Set (82/100) Plus Extras. This series is rarely offered close to completion. Producing a set of minor league baseball players was a bold and wise move for Parkhurst to make in 1952. The success of hockey cards in the Canadian market was certainly no surprise but baseball was different story. With the success of Bowman and Topps baseball sets in the US, producing this set not only tested the desirability of the product but kept licensing costs to a minimum. Included are three of the four widely collected pre-rookie cards of Dodgers stars Tommy Lasorda, Johnny Podres and Walt Alston. Eight cards have been graded by SGC. Highlights include: #'s 25 Stevens, (SGC 80 EX/NM 6), 26 Stadium (SGC 80 EX/NM 6), 41 How to Bunt (SGC 84 NM 7), 58 Lasorda (SGC 60 EX 5), 60 (SGC 84 NM 7), 61 Nelson (SGC 70 EX+ 5.5), 66 Alston (2: SGC 50 VG/EX 4, VG), 76 Podres (SGC 60 EX 5). Extras grade mainly EX with some lesser. Near set grades 62% EX to EX/MT with a few nicer, 38% VG to VG/EX with some lesser.
