    Description

1940 Play Ball Low- & Middle-Series Near Run (164/180). This classic series is both praised and criticized for the same reason--the set offers both legends of the past and contemporary stars. We stand in the camp that feels this mixture is a fantastic idea. We can only imagine if the threat of war influenced Gum Inc. to make this all-out effort before being forced into an unknown future of card production. Presented are 162 Play Ball baseball cards from 1940, all originating from of the first 180 cards (#'s 1-180) issued almost 60 years ago. Missing #'s 2, 24, 123, 127, 131, 133, 136, 140, 144, 145, 157, 159, 171, 174, 175 and 178 to complete the low number run. Twelve cards have been graded by SGC.
