Description

1923 V117 Maple Crispette Near Set (26/30). The V117 Maple Crispette edition from 1923 is one of the more recognized entries on the brief list of Canadian issues with American baseball content. The Montreal based firm sponsored this black-and-white card series along with an offer that allowed youngsters to exchange a complete 30-card set for an Official American League Junior Ball, High Class Base Ball Bat or Scholastic Model Glove. Prize distribution was kept well under control as card #15 Casey Stengel witnessed extremely little circulation and is today mentioned as one of the rarest cards in the hobby. This set is also noted for having one of the best portrait of babe Ruth from any issue. Missing #'s 4, 15, 20 and 30 for completion. Includes: Graded - SGC 80 EX/NM 6: 1 card, #17 Emil Meusel; SGC 70 EX+ 5.5: 1 card, #1 Jesse Barnes; SGC 60 EX 5: 4 cards, #'s 2 Harold Traynor, 14 Wingo, 23 Roger Peckinpaugh and 24 Muddy Ruel; SGC 55 VG/EX+ 4.5: 2 cards, #'s 3 Ray Schalk and 25 Bill McKechnie; SGC 50 VG/EX 4: 1 card, #18 Bill Jacobson; SGC 45 VG+ 3.5: 1 card, #16 Arnold Statz; SGC 40 VG 3: 3 cards, #'s 6 Howard Summa, 8 Babe Ruth and 19 Jim Bottomley; SGC 35 Good+ 2.5: 1 card, #22 Ty Cobb.
