    Description

1917 E135 Collins McCarthy Partial Set (61/200). The mid-1910's era saw a limited number of comprehensive baseball card promotions. The sets that were produced now serve as the cornerstone to many vintage collections. The Cracker Jack and M101-4 and M101-5 editions, as well as these scarcer E135 Collins McCarthy sets are highly pursued by modern hobbyists needing a vintage fix. The clean and simple design seemed to have served as inspiration for the E121 American Caramel sets that would not circulate for another four years. The distinctive "Baseball's Hall of Fame" and the Collins trademark, glossy surface and thin card stock make then unquestionably a Collins-McCarthy product. An option to acquire the complete 200-card set was not available which is probably why E135s are rarely offered in quantity today. Offered is a selection of 61 different cards including a choice of HoFers and a famous Black Sox. Includes: Graded - SGC 45 VG+ 3.5: 1 card, #182; SGC 40 VG 3: 6 cards, #'s 19, 29, 38, 64 Griffith, 140 and 148; SGC 30 Good 2: 2 cards, #'s 40 and 75; SGC 20 Fair 1.5: 3 cards, #'s 27, 31 Collins and 185 Weaver. Ungraded - #'s 71 Heilmann (FR), 86 Jennings (PR) and 198 Pep Young (FR). Grades 46% GD to VG; 54% PR to FR (a few miscut). See our web site for a list of the contents of this collection.
