1916 BF2 Ferguson Bakery Baseball Pennants Near Set (71/97). The Ferguson Bakery Felt Pennants are a series of 6" tall pieces of pennant shape felt decorated with the name and team of one of 97 different currently known subjects. Each also has a small 1-1/4 x 1-3/4" Black & White photo. Believed to have been circulated around 1916, the felts were inserted as a premium into bags of Ferguson's Bakery Co. loaves of bread. Today, they are very scarce and as one wanders down the isles and dealer tables of the largest hobby conventions only a precious few may carry a "BF2" scattered among the seemingly endless piles and displays of the cardboard variety collectibles. Few complete sets are known and only one complete set has ever been offered at public auction. Each of the almost 100 different subjects can be found on an array of different color felts for you master set fans. This presentation offers a very nice selection of the many different hues including Purple, White, Light Blue, Tan, Brown, Mauve, Salmon, Violet plus others. The subject roster is highlighted by baseball legends Grover Alexander, Nap Lajoie, Honus Wagner, Connie Mack plus an all too rare appearance of Shoeless Joe Jackson and future 1919 "Black Sox" Buck Weaver. To assemble a matching collection would test the patience and determination of even the most passionate hobbyist.

The overall condition of this rare selection is mainly excellent with those lesser showing evidence of having been sewn together at some point in the past. The photo portions are mainly excellent to mint or better (some lesser due to creases) and those marked (*) are incomplete. Photos are particular condition sensitive as the mount which traditionally protects images in this case is an ever flimsy piece of cloth making the inevitable crease an all but foregone conclusion. Surprisingly, that is mainly not the circumstance with this presentation. It is a prize of not just quantity but noteworthy quality. Includes: Alexander (VG), Archer, Baker (VG), Bancroft, Barry, Chief Bender (VG), Benz, Burns, Bush, Cady, Carey (GD), Cravath*, E. Collins (VG), S. Collins, Charles Comiskey (EX/MT), Sam Crawford (VG), Dooin, Dubuc, Johnny Evers (GD/VG), Foster, Gainer, Gedeon, Gowdey, Hamilton, Hendrix, Herzog, Miller Huggins (EX w/stains), Joe Jackson (EX), Hugh Jennings (VG), Judge, Kauff, Napoleon Lajoie (EX/MT), Lapp, Lavan, Leonard, Lewis, Ludurus, Connie Mack (VG), Marquard*, McInnis, Merkle, Miller*, Moran, Morgan, Morton, Murphy, Oldring, Paskert, Rowland, Rucker, Rudolph, Saier, Sallee, Schalk, Schang, Schulte, Scott*, George Sisler (EX/MT), Stallings, Stanage, Tesreau, Tinker*, Tyler, Vaughn, Veach, Hans Wagner (EX+), Buck Weaver (VG/EX), Wingo, Joe Wood (VG), Pep Young and Zimmerman*.
