    Description

1906 Lincoln Publishing Philadelphia Athletics SGC-Graded Near Set (19/20). Offered is a rare 19-card nearly completed set of Lincoln Publishing post cards from 1906 showcasing the American League Champion Philadelphia Athletics. Thankfully none saw use as correspondence. The Philadelphia Athletics debuted in 1901 as part of the newly formed American League. The A's won their first pennant in 1905 with a pitching staff of three 18- or-more game winners in Hall of Famers Chief Bender (18-11 W-L), Rube Waddell (27-10 W-L) and Eddie Plank (24-12 W-L). Surprisingly, there was not a single .300 batter in the lineup but a solid list of consistent .260+ hitters and the skills of manager Connie Mack. Currently, SGC has graded a total of 68 cards from this series. One can only imagine how few complete or even nearly comped sets such as this exist. Overall, cards are visually far impressive as the technical grades would suggest. Missing Oldring. Includes: SGC VG 3: 13 cards, Chief Bender, Andrew Coakley, James Dygert, Fred Hartsel, Welden Henley, Daniel Hoffman, John Knight, Briscoe Lord, Connie Mack, Joseph Meyers, Dan Murphy, Maurice Powers and Ralph Seybold; SGC Good+ 2.5: 6 cards, Lafayette Cross, Monte Cross, Harry Davis, Eddie Plank, Ossie Schreckengost and Rube Waddell.
