1888 H.D. Smith & Co. (Y95) St. Louis Browns Graded Collection (8). For well over a century, these beautifully produced and uniquely shaped cards were much admired for their brilliant colors and intricate die-cuts. They were also referred to as "Scrapps Tobacco" cards. We now know they were made by a H.D. Smith & Co. and can safely assume they were issued very late in 1887 or in 1888 as the roster is nine players from the Detroit Wolverines and the St. Louis Browns. The teams met in the 1887 World Series Championship, Detroit won 10 games to five. Offered is a gallery of six players from the St. Louis Browns. Includes: Doc Bushong (SGC Authentic), Robert Caruthers (SGC 40 VG 3), David Foutz (SGC 50 VG/EX 4), Bill Gleason (SGC 10 Poor 1), Walter Latham (SGC 20 Fair 1.5), James O'Neill SGC 40 VG 3), Yank Robinson (PSA Poor 1) and Curtis Welch (PSA Good 2).
