    Description

    Only two or three known!

1954 Wilson Franks Complete Set Uncut Sheet. The early 1950's was the golden age of regional baseball issues, with a wide array of businesses ranging from bakers to butchers to dog food manufacturers throwing their proverbial hats into the ring. Ranking near the top of that limited-release hierarchy is the issue so uniquely memorialized here, the twenty-card set of Chicago-area hot dog purveyors Wilson Franks. Six future Hall of Famers are honored, led by the iconic Ted Williams, with the "commons" trending heavily (and predictably) toward Windy City favorites.

Those intrepid collectors willing to take on the Wilson Franks challenge have been stymied not only by the great relative scarcity of the issue, but also by the condition flaws endemic to cardboard birthed from packages of meat. With only ten cards from the issue ever commanding a Mint 9 rating from PSA (at the time of this writing), the elite significance of this marvelously well-preserved uncut sheet becomes clear.

The bulk of six decades of storage wear is confined nearly entirely to the four corners of the 10.5x18.5" sheet, with a light wrinkle occasionally trickling in from the edges. The Hall of Famers are spared from these small diversions from perfection. A scattered few tiny spots of age toning are reported only in the interest of full disclosure, doing little to distract attention from the bright coloration and sharply registered photography. For fans of those quirky regional issues of the Eisenhower era, this is a dream piece by any metric of assessment.
