    Description

1912 Boston Garter Advertising Display Sign with Eddie Collins & Hal Chase. The rarity, artistry and undeniable charm of the Boston Garter issue assures that any offering upon the public auction block is met with no shortage of fanfare, but this remarkable relic distinguishes itself even within that sparse population. The sock garter is as dead as the Dodo, driven to extinction by elastic, but a tiny population of their promotions live on, none as glorious as this virtually pristine window advertising sign.

After the highly-limited population of the original print run, Boston Garter cards fell victim to their oversized dimensions, larger than period tobacco and candy cards by multiples and thus far more susceptible to general wear and spring cleaning mothers. But we find two cards here, each appearing in as-issued condition but for the period glue on the back that affixes them to the 11x21" cardboard sign.

The featured Dead Ball Era superstars are Eddie Collins in the midst of Connie Mack's first great Athletics dynasty, and New York Highlanders first baseman Hal Chase, a certain Hall of Famer if not for rumors of game fixing. Each card would be worth tens of thousands of dollars independently if not permanently affixed to the backing.

The sign itself exhibits only minor edge and corner wear, and a slight area of dampstaining at lower center, well clear of the cards themselves. Two tack holes appear within the bold blue text at top, to little distraction. Unquestionably one of the most exciting advertising pieces to cross our desks, a rare opportunity for the advanced pre-war trading card collector.

Just wanted to let you know how pleased I am regarding the sale of my hockey jersey. You were great to work with, you answered all my phone calls and e-mails in a prompt manner, and you did a great job marketing the jersey.
