    Description

One-of-a-Kind 1910 E221 Bishop & Co. Los Angeles Angels (Purple) 13-Players PCL Team Card - The Only Known Example! Having the privilege to present four E221 team cards in one auction is an honor all its own. To have a very special card that may solve a hobby mystery is almost too much to ask. There are three lots of E221s in this auction featuring the Los Angeles team. Two of the cards show 20 players. This rarity is a second version with only 13 players. That is incredibly significant because this card advertises, "This is one of a series of pictures showing each team in the League-one picture free with each 5-cent package of Bishop's Milk Chocolate." There is one known uncut sheet of five teams, all with red backgrounds that does not include a card of Sacramento. Over a century later, Sacramento has yet to be seen and probably does not exist. There is this variant of the Los Angeles team, from a set made by a Los Angeles based company which means this may very well be the sixth and final advertised card. Noted authority Mark Macrae conveyed to us that he believes there are just 36 total E221s known in the hobby. Issued by the Bishop & Co. of Los Angeles, the thin-paper collectibles are premiums that were circulated (folded) inside packages of Bishop's Milk Chocolate. Mr. Macrae has the only known box and confirms a folded E221 fits perfectly inside. The set is believed to be complete at six - one for each of the 1910 PCL teams - although Sacramento has yet to be confirmed. Regardless what one may have in ones treasured holdings, the large (10" x 2-3/4"), colorful premiums with either a yellow, purple, red, green or blue commands your attention and reverence. This presentation is for a Los Angeles Angels team card with a purple background. There is the center fold (as issued) plus two other creases, some reverse soiling, a slight surface pull and an "E221" pencil notation, the technical grade is Good. Too large to be encapsulated, this crowning addition to your card collection deserves to be matted and framed and put up for all to see.
