Vintage 1924 Mrs. Sherlock's and 1917 Wagner Day" Honus Wagner Pair (2). Includes: 1924 PD3 Mrs. Sherlock's Bread Honus Wagner Pin. Although complete at only ten subjects, putting together a complete set of the 1924 Mrs. Sherlock's Bread pin back set is no easy task. Each 7/8" dia. celluloid pin features a distinctive red border that surrounds a black-and-white portrait. A paper liner confirms the pins a product of Bastian Bros. of Rochester, NY. Offered is Pittsburgh Pirates legend Honus Wagner in (EX/MT) condition; and June 22, 1917 "Wagner Day" - All good things must come to an end. Early in the 1917 season Honus Wagner announced he was going to retire. It appears Pittsburgh wanted to honor their aging legend by declaring June 22, 1917 "Wagner Day" with a pin to mark the occasion. It seems as if this never came to pass but rare examples of the intended pin have surfaced. The art measured 1-5/" diameter and has no wear or creases. It is hand cut with the bottom edge ever so slightly encroaching into the art.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
