Extremely Rare Circa 1909 Atlanta Crackers Team Issue SGC-Graded Pair (2). The Atlanta Crackers first fielded a team in 1895 calling the Athletic Grounds their home in the Southern League. The now politically incorrect moniker coming from a previous team called the Atlanta Firecrackers. The team became part of the Southern Association in 1903 where there were a constant and successful entry until 1961. In 1907, the Crackers made the new Ponce de Leon Park their home, a relationship that lasted into the mid-1960's. In 1909, possibly 1910, the year we believe this currently uncatalogued, most likely team issue originates from, the Crackers went 87-49 and were the League Champions. A repeat of the success they earned in 1907. We have been told the offered pair of Dick Bayless (SGC SGC 10 PR 1) and Scott Walker (SGC SGC 20 FR 1.5) are the only examples of these players known for this series. Dick Bayless played for only part of the 1908 season with Cincinnati and played for two years (1909-10) with Atlanta. Scott Walker never made it to the big leagues and played for Atlanta from 1909-1911. Both measure 4" x 6" and are on a thin card stock making them slightly thicker and larger than a traditional postcard. These two cards are currently unique, one-of-one collectibles with the possibility of others being found extremely unlikely.
