Description
1962 Post Cereal Corn Flakes Complete Box with Baseball Cards. From the Adolph "Herky" Rupp, Jr. Collection. Offered is something almost never seen- a complete, intact box of Post Cereal from 1962 with the original baseball cards still left uncut. We have offered uncut panels in the past, but to see this in its original form is a true rarity. This box of "Sugar Coated Corn Flakes" displays in reasonably strong condition with minor shelf wear. A picture of the Twins slugger, Harmon Killebrew, and a price tag of 29-cents highlights the front, while seven baseball cards are the feature for the reverse. Includes: #'s 24 Regan, 60 Geiger, 87 Green, 122 F. Robinson, 151 Thomas, 175 Virdon, 199 Mahaffey. Some minor condition flaws include- #'s 24 Regan (wrinkle), 60 Geiger (surface), 87 Green (surface), 122 F. Robinson (corner hit), 199 Mahaffey (corner hit). The other cards appear to be without major issue.More Information: The Adolph F. "Herky" Rupp Jr Collection.
Adolph F. "Herky" Rupp Jr. was born into a world immersed in sports, as the sole offspring of the legendary basketball coach Adolph F. Rupp of Kentucky. This unique upbringing fueled a deep-rooted love for sports. At the tender age of 7, Herky found his calling in the form of sports card collecting, a hobby that he initiated by purchasing gum cards for mere pennies and nickels at his local Corner Grocery.
This childhood pastime swiftly evolved into a profound passion, spanning over the years, and culminating in a comprehensive and diverse collection. His trove features an array of cards from Topps, Bowman, Fleer, Goudey, Kahn’s, and Play Ball, along with local and regional sets and treasures from the early 1900s, including coveted tobacco and caramel cards.
Herky focused on two primary goals within his collecting journey: completing his card sets and continuously enhancing his collection's quality. His unwavering enthusiasm and devotion to the hobby remained steadfast for an impressive 68 years until his untimely death from cancer in 2016. His legacy, however, endures in the remarkable collection he amassed, a testament to his love for sports and the art of collecting.
