High-grade sheet includes Mint examples of Gehrig, Greenberg!
1934 Goudey Baseball R320 Uncut Sheet of Twenty-Four Cards. While its older sibling, the 1933 Goudey set, may get the lion's share of collectors' attention, we've always had a special place in our heart for this follow-up issue of 1934. The affection is due particularly to the special participation of the Iron Horse, who was finally stepping out of the shadow of Ruth during this final year of their pinstriped partnership. Gehrig is likewise the only member of the ninety-six card set to appear twice, with this stunning uncut sheet containing the number sixty-one representation, which invites young fans to join the Knot Hole Gang and to write to Gehrig, who promises to respond personally.Joining Gehrig both on this twenty-four card sheet and in Cooperstown immortality is legendary Tigers slugger Hank Greenberg, who would fall to Dizzy Dean's Gashouse Gang in that season's World Series. Each Hall of Famer's card survives in stunning Mint condition, as do the majority of the balance, the notable exception being those cards at the corners that exhibit the signs of their heightened susceptibility to wear. Coloring and registration are uniformly strong throughout, making this quite possibly the finest 1934 Goudey sheet in the hobby. Certainly the Gehrig would command $100,000 or more if it retained this condition with an original factory cut.
It should be stressed that the 1934 sheet is considerably rarer than the 1933, and the scarcity is compounded considerably when counting only those featuring the set's star spokesman. Fewer than five examples housing a Gehrig representation are known to exist. The sheet is matted and framed to a museum quality 20x22", requiring only a wall, a nail, and a place of honor in your personal trophy room.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.View More Testimonials
