    Description

1930's Sociedade Industrial dos Tabacos de Angola Babe Ruth and Alexander Pair (2). The one thing that is universal is language. Sometimes things get lost in translation but that just makes collecting more fun. From the South African Republic of Angola come this pair of C. 1920's baseball cards sponsored by the "Sociedade Industrial dos Tabacos de Angola" or "Industrial Society Tobacco, Angola". There a number of different series credited to the same, covering various sports and non-sports themes. We have been able to find any definitive information about this set but an issued date of around 1930 is most likely. Card #37 features Babe Ruth (VG/EX) and card #38 features Grover Cleveland Alexander (EX-). As far as we know these ear the only two baseball players in the set. Where things may have gotten lost in translation is the irony that Alexander is shown batting while Babe Ruth is shown pitching what appears to be a rugby ball. A fascinating pair demonstrating how the popularity of our National Pastime reached around the globe.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
