Incredibly Rare 1916 (D381) Ferguson Bakery Baseball Pillow Top Premium With Cobb, Wagner, Mathewson, Johnson, Etc. Every collection has an item that may not be the most valuable but just grabs your attention, makes your jaw drop and gives the owner mega-bragging rights. This is that kind of piece. In 1916, Ferguson Bakery used baseball cards to sell their goods. Those cards came with now almost impossible to find coupons and for fifty coupons one would receive an advertised "Beautiful Felt Pillow Top made from Star Base-ball Player Pennants or Favorite Movie Actor Pennants." It then explained, "This photo card was wrapped with Peerless Bread, "Perfect for the Home Plate." These are now close to one-of-a-kind premiums and although the pennants look familiar they are actually the larger (6-1/2") variety with more elaborate decoration. The lineup includes, in order: Alexander, Evers, Johnson, Stallings, Mathewson, Carrigan, Cobb, Leonard, Kauff, Maranville, Wagner and Gardner. Some of the portraits were used for the cards, others are unique to this premium. The pillow base/fringe is in overall excellent condition, six or seven missing fringe pieces is the lone fault. The dozen pennants are in great shape, any imperfection is very minor, we see no rips or tears. Each photo has some creasing and/or wrinkling. The Evers has a pair of pin holes, Mathewson has a portion of the upper left missing. The approx. 23 x 23" premium is ready for hanging and immediate chest thumping inside a 2" deep shadowbox to an overall size of 29" x 29."
