    Description

1991 Topps Desert Shield Wax Box With 36 Packs. In 1991, Topps was celebrating the 40th Anniversary of their first card promotions in 1951. At the same time our brave American sons and daughters in the military were called upon to free Kuwait from a dictator named Hussein. The freedom effort was dubbed "Operation Desert Shield." With few things more All-American than baseball cards, Topps produced special "Desert Shield" cards that were a parallel to the standard '91 issue but featured a special gold-foil "Desert Shield" emblem. The reported production was less than 6,000 of each card, all intended for the soldiers serving overseas. Reports that some cards never made it their intended overseas audience, we are proud to say our consignor served our country and has held onto these cards for over 25 years. The outer box does have some wear, totally acceptable as it did travel about 15,000 miles but the packs are in the NM or better range. No complete sets were ever issue by Topps. Inside could be a Mint or Gem MT card of any one of the great stars of the era like Griffey, Jr., Ripken, Thomas, Mattingly, Ryan, Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Johnson, Brett, Bonds, Henderson, Sandberg, Smith, Puckett, Gwynn, Boggs plus others and the rookie card of Chipper Jones. The offered box has 28 unopened packs and 8 opened packs (a necessity by Steve Hart to confirm "Desert Shield" status. This is a very rare opportunity as this is the rarest wax box of the last 40 years. See our web site for authentication letter from Steve Hart. Box comes sealed in Baseball Card Exchange wrapper.

    More Information:

    To Whom It May Concern,

This letter is being written for the 1991 Topps Baseball Desert Shield Wax box that is labeled #A2029.

This box is a partial box that contains 28 unopened packs, plus the cards from the 8 opened packs. The reason that we had to open the 8 packs is to confirm that these packs are indeed the Desert Shield version. Topps did not in any way make a difference between these boxes and the regular common 1991 Topps baseball wax box. The only way that we can tell is a box is in fact a Desert Shield box is by opening some packs. Therefore, we took 2 boxes of 1991 Topps Desert Shield and opened 4 random packs from each box. All 8 of the packs yielded Desert Shield cards. We were then able to put 4 packs into one of the boxes and wrap is a full, complete Desert Shield box. This box we will wrap and label as a a partial box with 28 of 36 wax packs, along with the 8 open packs of cards.

Of the 8 open packs of cards, they include the following cards: Ozzie Smith, Barry Bonds, Rickey Henderson, Andre Dawson, George Brett, Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson and Chipper Jones.

    Sincerely Yours,

    Steve Hart
