    Description

1969 Topps Mickey Mantle (Yellow) #500 PSA Mint 9--Only Two Superior! In a demonstration that could only be interpreted as one of true reverence, the good folks at Topps decided to proceed with a Mickey Mantle card for their 1969 set despite the fact that the legendary long ball artist had decided to hang up his spikes, a fact that is reported on the card verso above Mantle's eye-popping career statistics. The text likewise notes that Mantle was (at the time) "3rd on the All-Time Home Run list," and this card likewise has been topped only twice in over 8,500 submissions to PSA.

It's easy to see why. The photographic image is perfectly registered and balanced between the brightest of white borders and the sharpest of corners. It's a majestic commemorative, a fond farewell to the hero of countless millions of Baby Boomers. Graded PSA Mint 9. Only two examples have graded higher.
