Description

1964 Topps Pete Rose #125 PSA Mint 9 - None Higher. For baseball's all-time hits leader, it was the twelfth time that was the charm, as the eventual 1963 Rookie of the Year posted a zero-for-eleven start to the season before tripling off Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander Bob Friend to take the first step of the sport's longest march. He would rarely see slumps like that which launched his peerless career again, barreling his way to fame and infamy over the course of twenty-four Major League seasons. At the time of this important card's release, Pete Rose was just establishing his "Charlie Hustle" legend. The kid seen here went on to become the game's all-time hits leader.

Graded PSA Mint 9. After over 3,350 submissions, not a single representation of this key Peter Rose collectible has ever earned the Gem MT barrier. Only twenty-four unqualified cards have achieved the mint ranking. Regardless of what one thinks of ol' "Charlie Hustle," what isn't controversial is the quality of this card. Color, gloss, registration and corners here are essentially unimprovable. The ultra critical will say vertical centering is a sliver too low. Once you have this on hand, you'll get over that. After Mantle, the most valuable card in this set. A very fresh and clean example that really grabs your attention.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
