1964 Topps Mickey Mantle #50 PSA Mint 9 - Only One Higher. It seems like for every year of his career Mickey Mantle added a new entry to his legacy. Everyone knows he is baseball elite. His exploits both on and off the field will entertain and inspire generations to come. By 1964, Mantle was entering into the twilight of his career. Once again, the Yankees had won the AL pennant and were facing the St. Louis Cardinals in the World Series. Game 3 was on October 10, 1964. The Yankees scored early but the Cardinals tied it up in part to Mantle committing a little leaguer error. In 1983, he was quoted, "... By that time I couldn't run too much anymore. They put me in right field and Roger Maris in center. Somebody hit me a ground ball. I nonchalanted it. It went through my legs, and the guy scored." Coming up to bat in the ninth inning, tied 1-1 Mantle stepped into the batters box. Like every true legend, Mantle sent the first pitch into the third deck of Yankee Stadium. It was just the fifth time in World Series history someone hit a walk-off home run and the first for Mantle who still holds the record for most career world Series dingers.

Graded PSA Mint 9. Offered is one of the finest examples on record with PSA of Mick's entry in the 1964 Topps series. It is a showpiece worthy of a lengthy list of superlatives. Sharp corners; Fresh gloss; Vibrant colors; Blemish-free. Check, check, check and check. A stellar example with a slight shift in horizontal centering being the lone "fault." One of forty-two in MINT with just one higher.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
