Description

1962 Topps Lou Brock #387 PSA Mint 9. On June 15, 1964 the Chicago Cubs and the St. Louis Cardinals made what is considered by many to the be the most one-sided deal in baseball history. The Cubs sent a young outfielder named Lou Brock, Jack Spring and Paul Toth to the St. Louis Cardinals for Ernie Broglio, Bobby Shantz, and Doug Clemens. Lou Brock would help win the 1964 World Series for the Cards thanks to a .348 batting average. St. Louis would win the World Series again in 1967 and the NL pennant in 1968. When Brock retired in 1979 he had 3,000+ hits and over 900 stolen bases, both stats earning him HoF honors in 1985. FYI - in 1964, Ernie Broglio went 4-7 with a 4.04 ERA and was gone by 1966.

Shown here before "the trade" we offer an outstanding high-grade rookie card of Lou Brock from the 1962 Topps series. What is just as lop-sided are the number of high examples vs total graded examples of this card. As '62 fans now all too well, very high grade cards are rare due to the wood-grain borders. The card offers the hoped for combination of sharp corners, clean surfaces, fresh gloss and perfect centering. This card is among the top 1.1% finest on record with PSA and is well deserving of the title. Graded PSA Mint 9, one of twenty-four at the Mint 9 level with a pair rated higher. This card is for the hobbyist who only wants the finest for his/her collection.
