    Description

1955 Topps Roberto Clemente #164 PSA NM 7. This is the great Roberto Clemente's rookie card. Clemente could have been a Brooklyn Dodger. He played in 1954 for Montreal, a Brooklyn AAA team. Only 19-years-old, he hit .257, and former Dodger executive Branch Rickey, a master at spotting talent, snapped him up in the Winter Draft for his current team, the Pittsburgh Pirates. The rest, as they say, is history. What a history! Clemente played right field for the Pirates for 18 seasons, with a lifetime .318 batting average and exactly 3,000 hits. An All-Star for 13 seasons, he was the NL MVP in 1956 in only his second season. He won batting titles in 1961, '64, '65, and '67. His arm was a cannon, and he won 12 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1961-72. He helped the Pirates to three pennants and two World Series championships, in '60 against the Yankees and in '71 versus the Orioles. Graded PSA NM 7. The bright colors pop as does the surrounding white frame.
