1954 Wilson Franks Ted Williams PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop Five, Two Higher. For a brief span during the spring and summer of 1954, packages of Wilson Franks hot dogs came paired with what are today highly prized 2-5/8 x 3-3/4" baseball cards, each bearing the likeness of one of the more talented and admired players of the 1950's era. The brief, 20-man roster is spiced up with names like Campanella, Fox and Feller but none generate the reverence and awe of the name Theodore Samuel (Ted) Williams. If you wanted a Ted Williams card in the summer of 1954 your options were limited. Although Topps wisely honored him with both the first and last card of their standard production, legal issues would hinder Ted's availability from Bowman leaving the lucky few to have access to regionally circulated premiums to provide an opportunity to acquire a card of "Teddy Ballgame." When you consider that to date only slightly in excess of 2,000 (with qualified submissions) cards of this issue have passed through PSA's grading service, it becomes clear just how unquestionably scarce this beautiful series truly is.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. This astounding representation of the great Ted Williams takes us one step toward the pinnacle of the elite, ranking as one of only five such cards to rest at the NM-MT level with just two cards dated higher. The corners expose wear at the outer tips under magnification. The verso is equal to the face in quality and visual presence. We could enter into a lengthy round of superlatives for every point of reference--corners, full measure of original surface gloss, an incredibly rich;y colored, full-figure portrait thanks to precise print registration, etc. Our picture is well worth at least the 1,000 words. This card is undeniably one of the premier gems hobbyists have to pursue. No small testimonial considering no era of card production can compare to the 1950's. Suitable to grace one of the hobby's finest '50's assemblies!
