    Description

1954 Topps Hank Aaron #128 SGC 96 Mint 9. No one single action in baseball generates the same awe and jubilation as the home run. With one graceful motion, crowded base paths can be instantly cleared and the outcome of the game irrevocably altered. The man who graces this '54 Topps baseball card amassed 755 of those cherished moments. Moments thankfully made possible thanks to the erasure of the color barrier broken by Jackie Robinson. Though Aaron's own assumption of the home run crown came more than a quarter century after Robinson broke the color line, Hammerin' Hank was forced to endure everything from racist taunts to death threats as he reeled in the Babe. Although Aaron's remarkable 755 career home run total has been surpassed it is with the dreaded but seemingly necessary asterisk that many purist look on with an arched judgmental eyebrow. The accomplishments of Aaron are viewed wholly pure, without stain or grammatical accoutrements.

Hank Aaron would first appear on a trading card in the 1954 Topps series, his talents already showing even at this early stage of this career. Today this rookie card is one of the hobby's most important entries of the post-war era. This exceptional SGC 96 Mint 9 example of his 1954 Topps rookie card is a fitting tribute to the skill and bravery of history's most prolific slugger, remaining to this day entirely unchanged from its emergence from a wax pack over a half century ago. Offering rich and vibrant hues, precise registration, a flashy, bright white 3-quarter frame, centering a forgivable sliver low of center and four sharp corner tips are evidence to bolster our claim of a complete absence of surface wear. It is not surprising that this card finds itself near the top of the record books (much like the man himself) with only four at the Mint level with not a single specimen grading higher.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
