1953 Bowman Color Yogi Berra #121 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop Two, None Higher! When there is mention of the 1950's Yankees, the Mick is immediately thought of as the brightest star but he was by far not the only immense talent on a team that experienced six World Championships and eight pennant titles from 1950-1959. The Yankees also won it all in 1949 thanks in large part to this their squat little backstop who served as the sun in a galaxy of newly forming talents and egos. No Bronx Bomber in history is more decorated than the beloved Berra, earning two full fists of World Championship jewelry during his eighteen seasons as a player, as well as three American League MVP Awards in a five-season span. Every accounting of the team's all-time greats finds Berra installed prominently within the top ten, with some placing him alongside Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio and Mantle in the upper half of that ranking. Thus it come as no surprise that this Impeccable 1953 Bowman Color card, high #121, that features the smiling pinstriped giant will bring some frenzied bidding from the Yankee faithful.

Graded SGC 96 Mint 9, the cards represents only two that have earned the rating from the historically conservative SGC grading where results seems more like an interrogation than simply inspection. Of the four corners, one shows a hint of wear at the outer tip, the others an un-daunting defiance of age. Front and back surfaces show not a sign of handing, gloss is shiny and unmolested by human fingers. Centering, if it off, it is a mere hairline. The vivid white frame shows a minute dot of stray magenta ink, otherwise a display of perfection. This card is one of only two that have earned the right to be deemed "96 Mint 9." Among the more than 7,500 cards from the entire Bowman Color issue that reside in SGC holders, just 83 pieces - that is just one percent of the release's total census -- have successfully aspired to the Mint level, none has achieved a Gem MT distinction.
