    Description

1952 Topps Jackie Robinson #312 SGC EX/NM+ 6.5. Jackie Robinson was a giant. No, not a New York or San Francisco Giant, a giant in the history of America. Robinson's enormous impact on society was noted by writer Roger Kahn, "Jackie Robinson made his country and you and me and all of us a shade more free." Sometimes we remember Robinson's extraordinary play, and we forget the full impact of his social significance - or vice-versa. As the first African-American in modern big-league baseball, Robinson endured beanballs and slashing spikes, racial taunts and death threats, and he kept playing - wonderfully: National League Rookie of the Year in 1947, National League batting champion and MVP in 1949. The Hall of Famer helped the Brooklyn Dodgers to six pennants and Brooklyn's only World Championship. Great visual appeal on this colorfully ironic red, white and blue, enduringly valuable, card of a true American icon. Graded SGC NM-MT+ 6.5.
