Description1948 Leaf Satchel Paige #8 PSA NM 7. Paige famously mused, "Don't look back--something might be gaining on you," but the new owner of this high-grade trading card will find little competition for supremacy. The remarkable state of preservation after nearly seven decades of existence serves as a rather fitting tribute to the ageless Hall of Fame ace, who was still mowing them down as a forty-two-year old rookie for the World Champion 1948 Cleveland Indians. Bowman failed to honor the Negro Leagues' greatest arm in their 1948 edition, further elevating the importance of this, Paige's sole rookie specimen.
The '48 Leaf Paige is a short-print that is famous for being among the most difficult entries, accounting for this abridged census is the stunted availability and the popularity that Mr. Paige holds in the collecting community. The bright and bold design brings to mind the powerful aesthetics found in Soviet propaganda posters or Andy Warhol screen print.
Graded PSA NM 7. A physical examination, as the elevated grade would suggest, leaves us with little to report. The corners retain their tips. Centering is a study in perfection though there will be the "hairline off" nay-sayers but "hairline" is the only claim one can make. As for print registration and stray ink... the red is 1/32" away from precise alignment and we see no unsightly stray inks. Few rookie cards of Hall of Famers active beyond the Second World War present a greater challenge at this elite grade level. This is a strong example one should be proud to call their own.

Signature Internet Extended Bid: These Auctions are presented via catalog and online. Bidding is taken through our website or via phone. There are two phases of bidding during this type of auction: 1) Normal bidding: Bids are taken up until 10 PM CT the night the auction closes. 2) 30 Minute Ending: On a lot-by-lot basis, starting at 10:00 PM CT, any person who has bid on the lot previously may continue to bid on that lot until there are no more bids for 30 minutes. For example, if you bid on a lot during Normal Bidding, you could participate during Extended Bidding for that lot, but not on lots you did not bid on previously. If a bid was placed at 10:15, the new end time for that lot would become 10:45. If no other bids were placed before 10:45, the lot would close. If you are the high bidder on a lot, changing your bid will not extend the bidding during the 30 Minute Ending phase (only a bid from another bidder will extend bidding). If you are the only bidder at 10 PM, you will automatically win the lot at 10:30. Important: After normal bidding ends, you must be signed-on to the Heritage site to see the bidding option on lots where you qualify for extended bidding.
