    Only eight superior!

    1948 Leaf Jackie Robinson Rookie #79 PSA NM-MT 8.
"First Negro player in modern organized baseball," begins the historic text on the flip side of this essential rookie card, one of the very first appearances of the iconic barrier-buster in collectible cardboard, and arguably the most distinctive. We've always loved the '48 Leaf issue, a set characterized by bold, vibrant graphics and a veritable who's who of the post-war game.

With African-Americans representing the two top keys of the set--Robinson and fellow former Negro Leaguer Satchel Paige--this is a particularly noteworthy forward step for civil rights in the collecting hobby, and the presented representation is among the finest of the former. This one bucks tradition with perfect registration and a veritable absence of handling wear after seventy years of careful storage. Nearly 1,100 have been submitted for PSA grading, and only eight have soared higher that the offered example. Is there any rookie card more historically important than that of this brave racial pioneer?
