1938 Goudey Heads Up Joe DiMaggio #250 SGC NM-MT 8.5 - Pop One, None Higher! This is the highest SGC graded mainstream rookie card of an American icon. "Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio? A nation turns its lonely eyes to you," sang Simon and Garfunkel on their recording of "Mrs. Robinson." Of course, Joltin' Joe retired from baseball after the 1951 season, and he passed away in 1999. But he really hasn't gone away, and he remains an American icon nearly 70 years after his last game. Playing in New York City in "The House That Ruth Built" didn't hurt his fame, but The Yankee Clipper didn't just play there, he took it over. He played such a smooth center field that he made difficult plays look easy. He hit .325 lifetime with 361 homers and played 13 years, all for the Yankees, but missed three full years while he was in the U.S. Army during World War II. An All-Star every year of his career, he led in homers one year, had two batting championships, and three MVP Awards. DiMaggio was in ten World Series, winning nine. And of course, The Streak. The 1941 record 56-game streak took DiMaggio from a star player to a national hero. As the streak kept extending, people all over the country would ask, "Did he get a hit today?" And everyone knew that the question referred to Joltin' Joe. Later, Joe's marriage to Marilyn Monroe pushed him further into American popular culture as his fame transcended baseball.

The 1938 Goudey Heads Up featured an unusual look - A B&W photo on top of a cartoon body. This, DiMaggio's mainstream rookie card could be the Holy Grail for almost any collection. This is the highest graded 1938 Joe DiMaggio #250. Graded SGC NM-MT+ 8.5. Pop One, None Higher!
