Description

1937 O-Pee-Chee Bob Feller #120A PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop Two, None Higher. Bob Feller grew up on the family farm Van Meter, Iowa. He credits his arm strength to the hard work he put in keeping it running. His debut in the Majors as a fire-throwing seventeen-year old was with the 1936 Cleveland Indians. He had yet to celebrate his twentieth birthday. Feller nearly doubled his innings pitched for the 1938 campaign, winning 17 games against 11 losses. He racked up 240 strikeouts, averaging 7.78 victims per game. In 1939, the historic season that saw the debut of Ted Williams, the farewell of Lou Gehrig and the opening of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Rapid Robert set the American League strikeout mark again, adding to it a League-best twenty-four victories and equal number of complete games. Today, managers hope starters get them into the 6th inning. Upon retirement, Feller pitched 279 complete games, 44 shutouts, 3 no-hitters and a dozen one-hitters. Before Goudey issued a card of the future Hall of Famer in 1938, Feller appeared on an Exhibit card, a few paper premiums and this, the most elusive of his early card appearances from the 1937 O-Pee-Chee gum series in 1937.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. A check of the PSA census report shows a pair of other examples at the NM-MT level but you won't find a higher graded example of this card! All four corners come to 90-degree angles, surfaces reveal a complete lack of any stray inks, blemishes, scuffs, stains or toning so common with this issue. A true high-quality example of one of baseball's greatest athletes and a staple in the hobby for decades prior to his passing in 2010 at the ripe age of 92.
