    Description

1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig #37 SGC 88 NM/MT 8. Lou Gehrig was once quoted as saying, "I'm not a headline guy. I know that as long as I was following Ruth to the plate I could have stood on my head and no one would have known the difference." He couldn't have been more wrong. The same historic season the Babe knocked out sixty, Gehrig put forty-seven souvenirs into the seats and claimed the American League MVP Award. By the 1934 season, the Yankee balance of power had completed its shift, with Gehrig doubling the Babe's offensive production in homers and runs batted in. When the Goudey Gum Company reached out to Christy Walsh to sign one of his players to an endorsement deal, it wasn't Ruth they wanted. It was Gehrig. When it comes to Goudey's celebrated sophomore issue, it just doesn't get much better than this. This series doesn't just include Gehrig twice, it is dedicated to the set's Hall of Fame spokesman who gives player commentary.

Graded SGC 88 NM/MT 8, this specific example provides a glorious aesthetic and lack of wear that only six examples have ever charted higher on the SGC population ladder. Colors are brilliant, complimenting the super-clean surfaces and wonderfully high quality corners. The Iron Horse looks just like a new hatchling from a 1934 wax pack. The portrait has a surreal 3D quality that just draws you in. There is a very short list of cards collectors can not do without and this is certainly one of them.
