1933 Sport Kings Baseball Babe Ruth #2 PSA NM+ 7.5. Babe Ruth's story is so incredible it must be true, for Hollywood wouldn't dare to tell his story as fiction - it would be panned as unrealistic. Deemed incorrigible as a boy, Babe was sent to St. Mary's Industrial Home for Boys in Baltimore. Babe's parents couldn't control him, but 6'6" Brother Matthias could. Brother Matthias was so big that he made the grown Ruth look small. Brother Matthias loved baseball, and baseball was the main recreation at the school.

Ruth eventually made the Boston Red Sox as a pitcher. He won 23 games in 1916 and led the AL in ERA with 1.75. He won 24 games in 1924. He started playing in the field as well as pitching. Sold to the Yankees, he hit home runs like never before, 54 in 1920. After the Black Sox scandal broke at the end of the 1920 season, many Americans were disenchanted with the game. Meanwhile, in 1921 Ruth set a new MLB homer record with 59, scoring 177 runs and driving in 168, and helping to bring fans' interest away from corruption and back to baseball. Ruth was a 7-time World Series winner with the Red Sox (3) and Yankees (4). Ruth's season (60) and lifetime (714) homer records were once thought sacrosanct. No matter. Ruth is the greatest of all-time anyway.

The 1933 Sports Kings included 48 cards from 18 sports. The cards are 2-3/8" x 2-7/8", and have a colorized photo on the front with a bright, solid background. Produced by the Goudey Gum Co., they are one of the most popular sets of the 1930s. Other cards in the set include Ty Cobb, Carl Hubbell, Jim Thorpe, and female multi-sport star Babe Didrikson. Graded PSA NM+ 7.5.
