Description

1924 V122 Willard's Chocolate Babe Ruth #5 SGC 84 NM 7 - Pop One, One Higher. Baseball as we enjoy it evolved from a game designed overseas but became so ingrained in the history of the United States we now claim it as "our" National Pastime. Of the hundreds of athletes/personalities who helped make baseball an all-american sport no one man meant more and was more popular in his time than George Herman Ruth. Truth be told, his fame knew no line on a map. Cards of Ruth appear in many foreign promotions including those in England, Germany, Africa, Asia and Japan. Willard's Chocolate pooled names of top athletes from many different sports to produce a 56-card series in 1924 called "Worlds Champions." The thin paper set would include three American baseball players including Babe Ruth. Graded SGC 84 NM 7, of the twenty-six total V122 Ruth cards submitted to SGC, this is the only card in NM with one rated higher! Surfaces are very clean. The four corners show only slight traces of wear seen with the aid of a magnifying loupe. This card appears in far fewer vintage collections and is revered in any condition. This international entry will find a home and will probably not be seen again for a considerable amount of time.

Guide Value or Estimate: $6,000 - up.
