1924 Aguilitas Oscar Charleston #869 PSA Poor 1. The 1924 Aguilitas Segundas series saw circulation in Cuba and ranks very high on the "Rarest of them All" list of Cuban baseball releases. The real photo cards show no design elements with nothing more than a name and the player portrait taking up the central portion of the small 1-1/2" x 2-3/8" cards. Backs advertise them as the "Second artistic series" and were a give-away as "Gifts to our Patrons" graces the back of the cards. Among the players of the Cuban Winter League were rare appearances by a number of Negro Leaguers who found the opportunity to appear on any type of card close to impossible in the USA. Offered is one of the few known copies of HoFer Oscar Charleston! His career spanned four decades starting in 1915, current data tells us Charleston batted .359 lifetime (Cuba and USA stats combined) putting him in company with greats like Ty Cobb, Rogers Hornsby and Joe Jackson. He is considered the greatest Negro League player of all-time. He wouldn't become a Hall of Famer until 1976. The card is numbered #869 and is graded PSA Poor 1. The grade reflects the creasing, surface loss and a small bug hole. This is one of only three total graded by PSA. Two are graded Poor, one is graded higher.
