1923 V100 Willards Chocolate Complete Set (180) - #1 on the PSA Set Registry! It is always a pleasure when one doesn't know what part of a presentation is the most impressive. For public auctions, this is a first time a 180-card complete set of V100 Willards Chocolate Co. baseball cards has ever been offered. If the opportunity to acquire one of the more obscure but comprehensive issues of the era fails you then the fact that almost 90% (89.9% to be precise) of the offered cards equals the highest grade recorded to date certainly cannot be denied. Some "Pop 1-of-1 with none higher" highlights are baseball Hall of Famers Ty Cobb, Eppa Rixey, Frank Frisch, Tris Speaker, Miller Huggins, George Sisler, and Babe Ruth. The Ruth is a stunning NM-MT 8 beauty that is three grades higher than the second finest known - a pair of EX 5s as recorded by PSA. The roster of HoFers extends to football with the inclusion of Football HoF coach Alfred Earle Neale. Fans of this issue are all too aware of the scarcity of finding the blank-backed collectibles in any condition in the current marketplace. The fact that less than 450 total '23 Willards have been submitted to PSA speaks clearly regarding the scarcity of this issue. Looking at the total population figure for each subject you find the overwhelming majority of the subjects (159 of 180) has a total population of four or fewer. Many of the images are unique. The most noted being the portrait of Yankees manager Miller Huggins (found only here and in the E123 edition) which depicts him wearing his Yankees cap complete with the timeless "NY" logo.

The overall quality for a vintage set is simply remarkable. Not only is this the first complete set ever offered it is the finest known complete assembly recorded in any registry. One-hundred-thirty cards (72.2%) hold the coveted "Pop 1-of-1 with none higher" status. Just under 54% grade NM or better. As mentioned, 89.9% are the cards equal the finest graded examples recorded to date with no known copy confirmed to exist. The highest pop total for any card is a "4" if one can call that "high" in any sense of the term. This presentation currently ranks as the #1 Set on the PSA Set Registry and the GPA of 6.46 (that's .04 away from the EX-MT+ level) makes this an accomplishment not likely ever to be improved upon any time in the foreseeable future. It is a set well deserving of the finest vintage collections.
