1921 E121 American Caramel "Babe" Ruth (R. F.) SGC 60 EX 5. "I wish him all the luck in the world," Yankees teammate Frank "Home Run" Baker told the press midway through the 1921 season. "He has everybody else, including myself, hopelessly outclassed." It's likely that the aging star of Connie Mack's "$100,000 Infield" felt a bit sheepish about his own moniker as he shared a dugout with Ruth, having never put more than a dozen into the seats during any one season. It had taken the Babe just twenty-five games to match Baker's best during that spectacular 1921 season, one commonly considered the finest of Ruth's storied career. By season's end, the Babe would belt at least one 500-plus foot blast in each of the eight American League ballparks. The decadent Roaring Twenties had found its perfect athletic representative, larger than life in every way.

Graded SGC 60 EX 5. One of only two cards in EX with SGC, a trio have rated higher. This is one of Ruth's favored 1920's cards. The subject's printed identification is "Babe Ruth, R.F. - New York Americans" while the back is confirmed as a 1921 variety, the top line of copy ending "... eighty of the" is the more common but one would receive cheers from other bidders for letting that stop you from acquiring this card. It is rated a "5" which is the average point on the grading scale but the card seems to deserve much more. The provided trading card serves as an intriguing sign post at the crossroads where the game found itself in those earliest days of the 1920's. There is little more than less than expected corner wear to report in a condition assessment of this important entry that outshines its posted grade.
