1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy Rogers Hornsby #80 SGC Fair 1.5. From the Cleary Collection. Offered is an insufferably scarce period tribute to "The Rajah" -- hitter extraordinaire and two-time N.L. Triple Crown winner. This card was produced by the San Francisco-based Collins-McCarthy Candy Co., the same firm that has been highly praised as the maker of the "Zeenut" issues. Although similar in obverse design to several better-known series fashioned by East Coast manufacturers during the mid- to late-1910s, this ambitious, 200-card Collins-McCarthy production (termed "E135" in The American Card Catalog) is particularly coveted among advanced enthusiasts. After all, it is their only release that included Major League players as the company's other issues addressed only P.C.L. subjects. Regionally limited distribution has resulted in frustrating rarity. Graded SGC Fair 1.5. One of two cards graded fair with nine rated higher. The total SGC pop is only fifteen cards.
