1917 E135 Collins-McCarthy Joe Jackson #82 SGC Fair 1.5. From the Cleary Collection. The E135 Collins-McCarthy series used the titled "Baseball's Hall of Fame" some 20-odd years before the inaugural class was chosen for Cooperstown. The year was 1917 when this substantial promotion of 200 subjects made their debut. For a major release, the current supply is painfully inadequate to meet demand. The Collins-McCarthy library consists of an extensive number of volumes, their most famous being the "Zee Nut" cards that appeared in 1911 with annual promotions through 1938. What makes the E135 edition so important is that they are the only Collins-McCarthy cards to showcase Major League players giving fans of the west coast a taste of what the east coast had been enjoying for years. The roster contains such established greats like Ty Cobb, John McGraw, Walter Johnson and Honus Wagner plus exciting new talents in George Sisler, Rogers Hornsby, Grover Alexander plus a pitcher in Boston they called a "Babe." The set also features six of the "Eight Men Out" Black Sox players, none more significant than this man on card #82 - "Shoeless" Joe Jackson.

Graded SGC Fair 1.5. There are only eight recorded examples on the SGC census. There is corner wear, not surprising as it takes just minimal handling to affect the thin stock and multiple creases, none significant. His classic full-figure portrait in the Black, White Sox uniform is decently centered. This card is very scarce and remains one of Jackson's toughest major release cards.
