Description

1916 M101-5 Blank Back (Sporting News) George Sisler #166 PSA Mint 9. George Sisler is one of the greatest batters our National Pastime has ever seen. His record of 257 hits in 1920 stood for over eight decades. His 1922 campaign, punctuated by a stunning .420 batting average and league-leading totals in hits (246), stolen bases (51) and triples (18), is widely considered one of the best individual single seasons in baseball history. He was a landslide winner of the 1922 American League MVP Award. Upon retirement Sisler had racked up over 100 home runs, over 2,800 hits and a lifetime batting average of .340. His durability and consistency made him a Hall of Famer and a common addition to trading card promotion of the era. We can say with certainty that not all of his cards are common.

Graded PSA Mint 9. There is nothing common about this card. The current total population is a mere ten submissions. Not surprisingly, this is one of just two cards to earn the "Mint" rating from PSA. This card deserves to be among the finest examples known. Surfaces are clean and blemish-free, corners all come to sharp 90-degree angles. The central image is close to perfectly centered. It is a card worthy of a HoFer like Sisler and we should note this is his rookie card debut. It has been years sine the other mint card was publicly sold. This card is headed for a world-class vintage card collection and will remain there for the foreseeable future.
