    Description

1916 M101-4 Sporting News Ty Cobb (Blank Back) #38 PSA NM-MT 8 - Pop One, None Higher! It is with a bit of irony that a card made for baseball royalty was issued the only season Cobb didn't win the American League batting title during the thirteen-year stretch from 1907 through 1919. It certainly wasn't for a lack of trying as Cobb batted .370 in 1916 but lost to Tris Speaker who batted .386! Don't be too critical, he is after all one of just two men in baseball history to reach the magical 4,000+ career hits mark. Plus Speaker didn't get a card in what was the most comprehensive promotion in 1916. Our offered card is a blank back version of the M101-4 series most commonly found with "The Sporting News" advertising.

Graded PSA NM-MT 8. A census topper ranking as the only card graded NM-MT with none rated higher! Only seventeen examples of this card have ever been encapsulated by PSA in any grade. Normally we would mention condition detriments but slight corner tip wear is all we have. Arguably, one of the tougher Ty Cobb cards in the market in exceptional condition and destined for the collection of a highly specialized collector.
