1916 M101-4 Gimbels Joe Jackson #87 SGC 80 EX/NM 6 - SGC & PSA Combined Total Pop is Just Two! Despite playing for 13 years prior to his banishment, Joe Jackson is featured within a limited number of card promotions. He had not yet become a regular player in 1910 and therefore was not included in the tobacco issues of that time. Jackson was banned from baseball following the 1920 season and did not make it into the popular American Caramel and related issues of the 1920's. Besides a few strip card issues, there are just not many cards available that feature Jackson with his infamous team, the Black Sox. The Sporting News and associated M101-4 and M101-5 sets are a great source for Jackson fans and they are among the most popular of all his White Sox cards, thanks in large part to the photographic quality depiction over the commonly used illustrations of the 1909-11 editions.

The offered card is far more special than the blank-back or Sporting News M101-4s usually encountered by collectors. This is a very rare Gimbels "Everything for Boys of Every Age, Popular Prices, GIMBELS" advertising reverse! Graded SGC 80 EX/NM 6. It is the highest graded entry from just two submissions to SGC. PSA has yet to grade their first example. The portrait is a classic Charles Conlon batting shot, a real-world version of the same picture that was used for his Cracker Jack card. Centering is a sliver away from perfect. With a following compared to few, for PSA and SGC to have seen a mere two examples is proof to just how rarely one finds the "Gimbels" advertising.
