1916 Famous & Barr Co. Babe Ruth #151 PSA Good 2. Babe Ruth is unquestionably the greatest star ever produced by our National Pastime. His humble beginnings from an orphanage in a poor section of Baltimore to the absolute pinnacle of wealth and international fame is the essence of the American dream and proof of the opportunity this country can provide. His "Ruthian" appetites for wine, women, food and song, along with his round belly and big, child-like smile made him so endearing to children and adults alike. He was a man of monumental celebrity and yet his entire persona is completely embodied in one flippant nickname, "The Babe." The way he twirled his cap as he trotted around the bases on surprisingly skinny legs after another tremendous home run blast, the ever-lasting grin all but guaranteed life-long fans. During World War II, along with a barrage of bullets and bombs, yells of "To hell with Babe Ruth!" was the greatest insult to an American that Japanese forces could conceive. Babe Ruth was the embodiment, the personification, of America in the 1920's. During his career, Babe Ruth appeared in just about every trading card promotion made available. If Ruth wasn't in it, why bother collecting it? Today, the one card that has the most magnetic pull on the senses is of course his rookie card. The "Famous & Barr" brand dates to 1916 which was just two seasons into his legendary rise to baseball immortality. That summer would be Ruth's best season from the mound posting a 23-12 record with a 1.75 ERA while hitting only three home runs.

Graded PSA Good 2. There are just three confirmed "Famous & Barr" entries on the PSA census. The grade is a reflection of the small areas of surface wear seen in the background, horizontal creases, some spot stains and wholly reasonable corner wear. The top layer in the very lower left corner of the reverse has shifted. This affects a very small spot and is easily over looked at a casual review. Much like a Babe Ruth signed baseball, the rookie card of one of baseball's elite is on the wish list of every collector whether they realize it or not. Only a small sampling of cards have managed to transcend the world of "sports collectibles" and take on a role of true historical significance. Babe Ruth's rookie card is such a card.
