1915 E145-2 Cracker Jack Clark Griffith #167 SGC 96 Mint 9 - Pop Four, One Higher. Clark "the Old Fox" Griffith began his lifetime association with baseball in 1891 and remained faithful to the game for over 60 years. Griffith began his playing career with the St. Louis Browns in 1891, becoming a player-manager for various teams until 1920. That same year he became owner of the Senators, a title he held until his death in 1955. Griffith was a known user of the spitball, would scuff and cut into baseballs, and claimed to have invented the screwball. When the American League was formed in 1901, Griffith was one of the first players to join the new league and convinced others to do so as well. He paid back the Chicago White Sox by winning 24 games, helping to earn the newly-formed team their first pennant. Griffith became a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946.

For the entire series, SGC has now graded 4,958 cards with 259 cards (that's just .052%) at the "Mint" or better plateau. On top of the condition which is nothing short of surprising for a 95-year old, fragile 2-1/4 x 3" piece of paper we have the added bonus of the subject being a member of baseball's hall of Fame and a scarce high number as Griffith is a unique subject within the 1915 series. The borders are bright; the horizontal and vertical centering is barely a sliver away from the utmost in precision. Each corner tip ends as a razor sharp point. The surfaces are free of any stains, scuffing , or any hint of handling for that matter. The colors are vibrant and the print registration is unimprovable. This card, impressively surrounded by the deep black insert of the SGC holder, makes for a stunning display.
