    Description

1914 Cracker Jack Del Pratt #93 PSA VG-EX 4. Almost secretively nestled among the 144 subjects that comprise the 1914 Cracker jack edition are a select few who appear far less often than the others. One famous name on that short list is HoF pitching legend Christy Mathewson. Another is Del Pratt of the St. Louis Browns. Other than both being major league baseball players, interestingly enough both attended college from a time only a percentage of baseball players had the means to pursue higher education. Exactly why they two are so rare has yet to be answered. All we do know is that both men appear in action scenes in the 1914 Cracker Jack series and as close-up portraits in the 1915 version. It certainly couldn't have anything to do with their playing careers. Pratt played for 13 seasons and massed 1,996 hits and a lifetime .292 batting average. The rarity of the Mathewson card is so much more documented since after all, it is Christy Mathewson. Whatever the answer may be we do know this card is one of biggest challenges facing the hobbyist who dares to attempt to complete a 1914 E145-1 set.

Graded PSA VG-EX 4, presented is one of eleven total examples graded by PSA to date. There are three copies at the VG-EX level with only one grading higher. Staining is always an issue with card from this series and this example has only modest amounts leaving pleasant eye appeal. The corners are all gently rounded, one is affected by very light wrinkling and there are no creases. Two brief segments of edge wear and one dark spot stain do nothing to affect the enjoyment of the precisely registered illustration which has retained strong color quality. A rare chance to get one very important step closer to completing your '14 set.
