    Description

1914 Cracker Jack Christy Mathewson #88 SGC 10 Poor 1. On Independence Day of this year, the great Christy Mathewson shut out the Phillies in the bottom half of a Polo Grounds doubleheader to notch his 350th career victory. With Babe Ruth nothing more than a promising prospect at the close of the year 1914, and Ty Cobb a brilliant but unlovable star, it was Mr. Mathewson that held the collective hearts of baseball fans nationwide at the time he appeared on this Cracker Jack card. Mathewson would appear in the 1915 Cracker Jack series but this attractive horizontal pitching pose would be replace by a regal portrait of Factoryville, PAs native son. Today, this revered card is among the most difficult cards to acquire from either of the E145 editions. Graded SGC 10 Poor 1, this card has creasing and soiling and an obvious reduction in the paper stock in the lower left corner, evidence that this card was once mounted in a vintage scrapbook. A prize for Cracker Jack collector and Mathewson enthusiasts as well.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
