1914 Boston Garter Rabbit Maranville SGC 60 EX 5 - Only Two Graded Examples on the SGC & PSA Census. These breath-taking relics were produced for the purpose of being on display in retail outlets hawking the sock garters the cards advertise. This intention certainly meant the printed quantities were far smaller than more traditional contemporary tobacco and candy cards of the era. The oversized (8x4") dimensions whittled the original population down to a tiny fraction thereof--fewer than twenty examples from the full twelve-card set appear in a major grader's slab. Offered is HoFer Walter "Rabbit" Maranville. His was a diminutive (he stood 5'5" and weighed under 160 pounds) in size but was a sturdy shortstop possessing quick speed (thus his nickname) who loved to entertain and play jokes on his teammates. When Maranville retired, his 23 years of service was a National League record. His sole World Series championship came the very year this rare Boston Garter display card appeared as part of the now famous "Miracle Braves" of 1914. His ability was duly recognized here, placing him among only a dozen subjects, most of whom have been enshrined in Cooperstown.

Graded SGC 60 EX 5. The highest graded example of just two examples recorded on the PSA & SGC census combined. The only condition aspect is some mild corner wear. You can't ask for more. This is rare opportunity for the type collector wishing to fill a entry missing from some of the most advanced type-card collections or for the Boston Garter specialist determined enough pursue a complete set of these premium sized and extremely rare series. This EX card is one of the highest graded examples for this entire series.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
