1914 Baltimore News George Suggs SGC 50 VG/EX 4. Today, the 1914 Baltimore News series is about as rare a card promotion as can be. The set is famous for being the source of one of the greatest cards in the hobby - a pre-rookie card featuring a talented young "Babe" who signed with Baltimore straight out of St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys. For the type card collector, this is an extremely rare chance to add a card from this set to your collection without spending what some will on their homes. The sets features players from the Baltimore Terrapins (Federal League) and the Baltimore Orioles (International League). Cards have been found printed in Red and Blue. The backs display the 1914 season schedule for the appropriate team.

This rare type from this now very much heralded edition features pitcher George Suggs of the Baltimore Terrapins. The give-away encourages people to "Read the Baltimore News" plus a closing "This card is given to" portion for the lucky recipient's name to be filled in later. Surfaces and corners are very nice with little wear affecting either. There is a crease very close to the upper right corner. Graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4, this is the only example on record with SGC. Currently, there are just eight cards reviewed by SGC, half of those are Ruth.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
