    Description

1911 T205 Piedmont Christy Mathewson PSA NM 7. Many of the biggest names from of the Dead Ball Era of our national pastime, when the sport was populated by brawling drunks and illiterate farmhands swinging wooden sticks, it was Christy Mathewson who was recognized almost as much for his gentlemanly comportment as he was for his remarkable Hall of Fame abilities. Even commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis eulogized the fallen baseball hero, "He was an inspiration to everybody, and may we have more of his kind." The 373-game winning right-hander from Factoryville, PA was so much more than an athlete, he was a true role model of his era. The tobacco and candy cards on which he appears are among the most sought after in our hobby, few more desired than his appearance in the "Gold Border" series of 1911. Graded PSA NM 7, one of eleven at this level with eight higher. We are taken back by the grade that is associated with this condition sensitive release as it barely fills the needs of condition conscious hobbyists. A review of the card shows it has somehow survived with only very light wear to top layers of outer corner tips, each tip still coming to a 90-degree angle. There is no staining, slightly off-centered graphics are the height of our critique, the finely detailed portrait is bright, clear, and precisely registered. The top-prize for Mathewson enthusiasts' young and old.
