    Description

1911 M110 Sporting Life Cabinet Ty Cobb SGC 50 VG/EX 4 - Only One Nicer! Offered is one of the finest examples of one of the more scarce Cobb card collectibles - his 1911 Sporting Life Cabinet we now simply refer to as "M110." In 1911, Tyrus Raymond Cobb was at the apex of his considerable powers. His league-leading numbers that season seem utterly improbable to even the most talented batsmen of the 21st Century: .420 average, 248 hits, 47 doubles, 24 triples, 127 RBIs, 83 stolen bases! Despite his vicious temperament that likely kept him out of the running other seasons, the American League had no choice but to crown him Most Valuable Player, the only season he was honored as such. Look closely at the image of the Peach, a portrait easily recognized to American Caramel enthusiasts, and you can still see the stare of great determination in his eye and clenched cheek. Though he stands before a background of no detail your imagination puts you in the scene as it took place over 100 years ago.

The Sporting Life cabinet premiums compare in size to the Turkey Reds of the same era but are much more difficult to find. The SGC census shows over sixty T3 submissions but only 13 Sporting Life cabinets plus M110s are considerably more condition sensitive. These cabinets don't have the added benefit of a thick card stock, they are considerably thinner and almost always found in low grade with every condition ailment possible. Graded SGC 50 VG/EX 4, this example shows minor corner and edge wear with most of the corner wear affecting the lower left corner with no creases or wrinkles. A review of the SGC census tells us there are three Cobb M110s in VG/EX with one grading higher (a lone "EX" copy that may not present much nicer than this. Own an impressive example of one of Cobb's more scarce collectibles.

The hammer price for my Mantle card significantly exceeded my admittedly conservative estimations, and I couldn't be more pleased.
