Description

1911 E100 Type 2 Bishop & Co. Buck Weaver, Orange SGC 20 Fair 1.5. After polling multiple hobby veterans, we can declare that this is the only known E100 Type 2 of Buck Weaver with an Orange background! The cards from this seldom-seen set were issued by the Bishop & Co. of Los Angeles, California. The firm produced a similar set a year earlier and both sets are both among the scarcest "E" issues. Both promotions showcased players from the Pacific Coast League. By far, the most accomplished player is Buck Weaver, one of the infamous "Eight Men Out" from 1919 Chicago Black Sox fame. Weaver batted .324 in the Series with no errors committed on the field. While he maintained his innocence, Weaver was banned for having knowledge of the fix and not informing team officials. This role has made him one of the most popular subjects within any card set, and while not enshrined in Cooperstown, his cards have the tendency to sell for Hall of Fame numbers.

The offered E100 Type 2 (which are markedly more rare than the Type 1 cards) has an orange background has been graded SGC 20 Fair 1.5. His knee-high batting portrait (another unique feature to the Type 2 cards) is close to being perfectly centered and resonates thanks to the vivid citrus backdrop. Type 2 backs are blank. One of only eleven total E100 Type 1 or 2 examples of Weaver rated by SGC. We have confirmed only three of the eleven are Type 2 and are currently unaware of any ungraded examples in private hands.
